In English class we were assigned a task of analysing the lyrics of three different songs.
The first song was "I am a Rock" by Paul Simon, an American singer and songwriter. The songs describes someone who isolates himself from human relationships. He has built emotional barriers around himself so that no one can touch him as he feels safer when alone. He has obviously been hurt by both friends and lovers previously as he writes "If I never loved I never would have cried".
The second song is "No Man is an Island" by Joan Whitney and Alex Kramer. The lyrics here reflect the feeling that we all need human relationships. It describes the interaction between people and how we share both joy and grief and that we are all apart of something bigger.
The third song we were asked to compare is "You'll Never Walk Alone" by Rogers and Hammerstien. This song is about how people should always support each other. No matter what troubles you have you always have to "walk on" and you will be supported. Even when life seems very difficult there will always be a light to guide you and other people will help you.
To sum it up I think I agree most with the lyrics of "No Man is an Island". We all depend on human iteractions to get by on a daily basis.
